Marianne Weil - February 2010“THE DIG AND OTHER EXCAVATIONS: Marianne Weil’s sculptures are an expression of her deep connection with Neolithic civilizations and the rituals they present to the world. During the last decade, Weil has traveled throughout Western Europe exploring Neolithic sites. The mysteries, landscapes and materials of these prehistoric cultures inspire her art. Weil casts each bronze sculpture uniquely from the original wax, finishing and patinating the bronze sculpture in her studio. “THE DIG AND OTHER EXCAVATIONS” is a five-week exhibition of Marianne Weil’s sculptures. Her work will be on display exclusively at the Keystone Art & Culture Center in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The exhibit opens on February 5, 2010 and continues until March 12, 2010. The show will be displayed in a 2,000 square foot exhibition space. Marianne Weil received her B.A. in sculpture from Goddard College in Vermont. She lived in Pietrasanta, Italy from 1974 to 1981, completing several apprenticeships to stone carvers and foundry artisans. Since receiving her M.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts in New York, Weil has taught in many different capacities and currently is a Professor of sculpture at the City University of New York. She has over a dozen solo exhibitions to her name, including the Ursula Holl Gallery in Zurich, Switzerland, Beatrice Conde Gallery in NYC, The Berkshire Artisans in Pittsfield, MA and Kouros Gallery in NYC where she is represented.
